06/09/2021 • University of Defence vice-rector for external relations and internationalisation Colonel Libor Kutěj led a delegation to the annual European Union Military Academies Commandants’ Seminar meeting held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 27 and 28 May 2021. Portuguese Military Academy arranged the meeting under the umbrella of Portugal’s presidency to the European Union.
Meeting agenda included, along with the common points concerning European Initiative for the Exchange of Military Young Officers (EMILYO), Implementation Group (IG), or some aspects of international cooperation in military education, a presentation of the concept of “European Military University”. The answers to the concept varied depending on the level of institutionalisation the European education structure would bring. Czech delegation supported the option of the least possible level of institutionalisation and focusing on real activities rather than on time and funds consuming effort of building structures. That opinion was very close to that presented by the commandant of French Écoles de Saint-Cyr Coetquidan.
The meeting concluded by passing the presidency to the next arranging institution, which is the Czech University of Defence. Czech representative Colonel Kutej invited, on behalf of the university rector-commandant, all the attendance to Brno in October 2022 to the European Union Military Academies Commandandts’ Seminar (EUMACS) 2022 and received the mallet of the organiser from the hands of Military Academy commandant Major General Luís António Morgado Baptista.
